So You Want To Write A Picture Book?

Here are some answers to commonly asked questions that I will talk about in a future episode of the Write Kind Podcast and blog.


The word count for children’s picture books is usually somewhere between 250 and 1,000 words.


Edits and consultation should already be complete before moving forward to formatting.


Make sure you review where page turns are natural in the story and plan for illustrations accordingly.


Picture books are printed in groups of either 8 (most popular) or 4.




Make sure if you are getting your book illustrated for yourself that the resolution is high for each page.


You can then create a storybook dummy which is a rough copy and layout of your book to get a feel of how it flows.
